Photo Scavenger is a photo scavenger hunt community active on LiveJournal since 2009. We've newly created this sister community, which obviously is still very empty. We're looking forward to you helping us to fill it with beautiful images! For more details and the rules, see above.

Everyone is welcome.

The idea is simple: we post a prompt every week, and members respond with a photo or two that they feel captures that theme. This fits in nicely for those doing Project 365 or other related challenges you're doing, or it can be a way to dip your toe into taking more photos. We hope it will be a wonderful way to share great photos and unique views.

The weekly challenges are tagged as 'admin' as well as '20xxprompt' (according to the year), so it should be fairly easy to find them and catch up at any time. There's also a link for the prompt tag of every year in the link list for your convenience. (*)

The Rules:

  • Our goal is one or two photos per post; but if you do post more than one or two, please be kind and cut.

  • Photo size shouldn't be larger than 800 pixels on the long side to be mindful of users with mobile devices and limited bandwidth. If you have any difficulties with resizing your photo, please ask.

  • Posts should be tagged with that week's prompt and with photographer's username. No additional tags, please.

  • Only your own photos, please.

  • The photos don't need to be posted on the week the prompt is given; you can catch up at any time, and with as many prompts as you like. Just remember to cut your entry if you're posting more than two photos at once.

  • We want this site to suitable for a general audience. Please choose your photos accordingly. Questionable photos will be deleted at moderator's discretion.

  • Please contribute to our welcoming, positive atmosphere by keeping language clean and polite.

  • Membership will not be accepted for commercial or advertising journals, or for any other journals that clearly aren't personal journals.

This community was created on Livejournal in 2009 and is now joined by a sister community on Dreamwidth. We'd like to invite you to check out the contributions in both communities, and participate with your entries and feedback in both, so both communities can grow together.

(*) For the time being, we didn't import the LJ community here, so the old prompt lists aren't available here as well. Please check out the LJ community if you're interested.

The current week's prompt is: home

Since so far, the DW version of [community profile] photo_scavenger isn't used a lot we're doing a sticky prompt list on top instead of posting each week's prompt individually. The other prompts are under the cut for your convenience.

LEFT

This was a pre-WWII calender, which Grandma always had up, and I now have haning in my kitchen.  The quote at the bottom is "The girl I LEFT behind me"  The image is from the Boer War, but I always imagined it was Grandma & Granddad, even though the war is wrong, and they didn't meet till it had finished!!

There's always time to plan my next visit somewhere ... whether it will be soon or not, it's fun to plan

This year I am a member of both The National Trust & English Heritage

Well I am back from my trip - and need to catch up with photos, although I do note that only curiouswombat has done her homework for the last challengs ... well done you!

Anyway, I have done a lot of visiting .... so decided that is what we can do for this prompt - VISIT

Good luck everyone

You are going to get 2 for the price of 1 as I am away next week. Amazingly the 2 I chose aren't ones we have done before ... so a good challenge. There is also the possibility that you can combine the 2 ... so here are the 3 tags -
  • Left
  • Right
  • Left & Right

Good luck - I shall enjoy catching up with you all in a couple of weeks

Just doing a bit of a catch-up.

When I moved house my sister-in-law gave me this set of knives ... they are too nice to use too much!!!

GAME
I am not really a football fan, but I am proud to be English - so here is how the England v. Denmark GAME started yesterday (and yes we won ... which means I shall watch the final)

What with a (big) birthday and my Chronic Fatigue, I am a bit behind with my photos ... so will catch up, I promise.

However, this week ....

I work for the NHS, and today it is "their" 73rd birthday, and in recognition The Queen has given the organisation the George Cross.  So, let's think "CROSS" for this week  (we have done it before, I know ... but always nice to re-visit some prompts)

Have fun

I am away this weekend (YAY!!!), and am going to my brother & sister-in-law's to celebrate my birthday.  So I have flowers to take as part of the Thank You ... and as you can see the Supermarket has won some sort of AWARD ... they are pretty, though, aren't they?

Shall I change a proverb - One man's JUNK, is another man's treasure.  On my walk this morning I walked past a local Charity Shop -

I live in the city of Exeter -

The West Front Image Screen of Exeter Cathedral is one of the great architectural features of Medieval England, and although most people look at a rose window from the inside out, for this I am showing you the outside of it - the FRAME

The Medieval Guildhall also exists, with this Portico added in 1592 .... glad those SUPPORTS still work!!

Well [personal profile] ysilme did say we could be creative.

Yesterday I had to go to the dentist, and as I got there early I had a walk and spotted this animal springing over the words -

I have more traditional Spring flower photos over at my journal over the last few weeks, so thought I would go "different"

Yes, we certainly need our brollies today - this one I have had for ages, butt still love it (and used it this morning to walk to & from work).  And now, as you can see, I don't feel it's unlucky to have one open in a house ...

Thought I would show you the image.  I have always thought it looked as if the puppy is smoking, rather than just lying in straw

I hadn't photographed anything for this this prompt until this morning.  And for breakfast I, as always, had a couple of mugs of tea.  (And as it's Star Wars Day today I used my Star Wars mug, of course)

Yes, 2 prompts - 1 photo!

This was Sunday tea - cheese & "greenery", followed by a caramel doughnut, syrup & jam tart

Well as we have all now had a sandwih and cake ... we need a DRINK to wash it all down!

Another old prompt, but as this one is 6 years old, I don't feel guilty!

Cheers

[personal profile] debris4spike
Well there have been a few good sarnies posted (yes, I know I still need to post something) ... but after a sarnie it is always nice to have CAKE ... I know we did this a couple of years ago, but lets see some other special treats!

Enjoy!!

I have realised how mad some things are! Last week I heard a couple of the "national days" that this site announces. Well today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

So let's simplify it and just say SANDWICH .... looking forward to seeing some snack suggestions!

I am not a believer in The Easter Bunny ... well I wasn't until last Sunday (Thanks Tim & Claire)!  Then this one came into my life - sadly I don't suppose he will be with me for too long!

Happy easter - I hope that you all had a lovely Easter, even if you couldn't actually do much with lockdown etc.

However, I have checked, and we haven't actually done EASTER as a prompt - so, that will be our prompt this week.

This photo is of the corner of my bedroom - complete with "Dobbin". I had him when I was 5, he now holds 4 saddles ... 1 was Jaykub's and the other 3 were DJ's. One from when he was broken, then as he grew (but he rolled wearing that one and broke the tree), and then the last one I used for him. The shoes on the front are the first set DJ ever wore, as well as the first set that Jaykub wore after he became mine.

However, as I have just seen the picture curiouswombat posted I had to post these extra photos taken a couple of years ago. They are the memorial for the horse Briggs, later Sir Brigs, one of the only horses to survive the Charge of the Light Brigade. Yes, the family knighted him, as he lived another 10 years after that disaster.
