It took me a while to get a good motif for "pickled", but here it finally is: this year's batch of pickled lemons and oranges.

I used oranges, too, for the first time last year as I didn't have enough lemons, and they turned out so good that I'm repeating it this year. By now the pickles are nearly ready to be used, too - it took me two weeks to make this post. *sigh*

I'm sorry, I totally forgot to copy the LJ prompt entries here for the last weeks! February's prompts are given by[livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat.
I'm doing a round-up of all missed prompts so far. (Week 5 isn't missing we just counted the weeks of January wrongly, sorry!)

Week 6: Something pickled
As some of you know I am currently helping organise my daughter's wedding and so I had thought to go with the old Bridal good luck rhyme* - but we have done dome of those things recently so I have changed mydirection slightly.

Instead I am going to use prompts from a favourite game in our house called Shout It Out where platers have to name the first thing that comes to mind for a particular prompt - only here, of course, what we need is a picture suggested by the prompt.

So I will draw them at random from the Shout It Out box. The first thing for you to find a picture of is...Something Pickled!

I'll just put 'pickled' in the tags.

*For those of you wondering what I am talking about, British tradition is that, for luck, a bride should always have with her at the wedding ceremony; 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue'.

Week 7: Dessert
So I have drawn another card from the Shout It Out! box. This one is 'any pudding or dessert'. That sounds fun! I will add 'dessert' to the tags.

I come with 2 different offerings.

This morning as I popped to the shops for some milk I walked past a display containing some pickles ... I had never heard of these, so took a photo -

Turns out they are the French version on the gherkin, and are slightly more sour

The other picture is one I took a couple of days ago and hadn't got round to posting.  One of the many things I inherited was my mum's huge supply of cookery books ... she never lost her love of finding a new recipe.  However one of them was actually her mum's.  I can't find a date in it, but she married in 1920, and it has her maiden name in it.  So here is a recipe for PICKLED SALMON (the 2nd version that you see took 2 full columns on the next page, so I wonder if anyone ever made it.
