Although I've always been an avid knitter, I've never crocheted much beyond the occasional pot holder and some cat toys, and a few doll clothes as a child. But at the beginning of the Corona crisis I got sucked into following a daily knit-along-podcast by Scandinavian needlework desingers Arne & Carlos, and chose to do one of their granny square blankets instead of knitting, following one of their videos with an explanation how to crochet granny squares. (I'd been taught to do them in a totally wrong manner as a kid, and altwas thought they were rather difficult to do. *g* ) I already had the instructions in one of their books and  was able to order the wool online, and from then on did one square a day until about two weeks ago, and about two every three days since then. I need 80 squares and have done 61 by now, a few more than you can see in this stack of my crocheted squares. :o)

It took me a while to get a good motif for "pickled", but here it finally is: this year's batch of pickled lemons and oranges.

I used oranges, too, for the first time last year as I didn't have enough lemons, and they turned out so good that I'm repeating it this year. By now the pickles are nearly ready to be used, too - it took me two weeks to make this post. *sigh*

My first thought of "bed" was a vegetable bed, so I went looking for some pics taken at a medieval open air museum in Nykøbing, Denmark, where they had a lovely display:

I love this type! We have some similar ones of regular planks, without the short poles; I might make the n ext ones just like these. Very practical, too, for lawn mowing around and to keep slugs away.

This gave me a hard time. Of course I didn't come across any "twenty" I could take a pic of since the prompt was posted, so I'm resorting to the only "20" I could find around the house (of course I didn't even had a suitable bill in my wallet!).

This is a former match box for big matches (about an inch long), in use for an Advent calendar now with wrapping paper glued to it, as well as a printed number 20.

We're in the process of painting the facade of our house. The gable end was the last part we did; this pic was taken just after the scaffolding had been taken off. A small part couldn't be reached neither from the scaffolding nor by ladder as the scaffolding was in the way, so you can clearly see the pretty new coat of paint and how it looked before. ^^

On New Year's Eve, instead of the ubiquitous fireworks, we started a new tradition in 2018: lighting a candle to shine for us into the new year. We're placing it inside a big outside lantern as it's very windy in our area. This last NYE, we lit a red candle I'd made myself from leftover candles, inside our red lantern.

In Germany, Mother's day is in mid May, the time when usually also everything's abloom in lilacs in our parts. My mother loves the white kind best and also has strictly forbidden to get her commercial flowers for the occasion. Since her birthday is on May 25th, mostly about a week later, she usually gets lots of white lilac cut from the bushes of family and friends, and white lilac has always represented "celebrate mum" for me. ^^
